TRIVIAL PURSUIT: National Parks Travel Edition was an opportunity to delve deep into the history (and minutae) of some of the United States of America’s most precious national resources.

As writer, I worked to create a balanced set of questions that incorporated a vast array of the National Parks, their shared history, and their furry, feathered, and scaly denizens. Over the 600 questions in the game, players are challenged to prove their knowledge in six categories: Natural Wonders, Battlefields and Historic Sites, Cultural Heritage, Science and Nature, Wildlife, and (of course) Wildcard!

Crafting a set for TRIVIAL PURSUIT involves adhering to the standards of the game while seeding the questions with diverse subject matter and good variety in difficulty. I worked with game developer Kami Mandell to settle on questions to be passed on to National Parks Foundation staff and worked to incorporate changes and write additional questions as needed to fill gaps identified during the process.

One of my favorite parts of the game isn’t something I had a hand in, it’s actually the packaging and “cup” sculpt designed by Arlo Hintzmann of CreativeKonzepts. This part doesn’t just elevate the game, it makes it more functional—just outstanding product design.

The result is a perfect roadtrip companion game—spend your long summer days exploring America’s wonders and your evenings poring over trivia, learning as you go!

The game’s cards were recently updated, primarily to refresh questions with outdated answers.
